I'm new in macro photography and planning to get a close up filter just to play around, any advice which type of close up filter I need to start (e.g. +3 or +4) and which brand is good?

Close up recommended is +4 and above. Seems like Hoya ones are gd enough. I stack 2 pieces of +4 for my 50mm and results are very gd, even with UV filter mounted too.

You could try the Raynox DCR250 which is a +8 diopter lens. Sample pic taken this morning at SBG. :)
