Okie.. being SUPER new to this... can someone please advice on how to clean lens properly?
With instructions like
a) what equipment to use for what occasion. (blower for wat.. solution for wat... cloth when to use? what kinda cloth can use? paper when to use?)
b) any special instruction like circular strokes? straight strokes? clean from inwards to outwards?
c) frequency of cleaning... so when is the lens considered dirty?
d) if there are fingerprints/scratch to lens.. HOW???

Experts please advice... :)

a) use ur cloth to wipe...;p (can try microfibre cloth)

b) no special instruction...jus wipe

c) when dirty then clean lor

d) fingerprint can wipe away mah...if gt scratch gd luck(pray it dun affect ur pix)

ask experts here how will this (or normal wiping action) affect coatings (multi?) and/or certain filters

what if done every & now then? at what strength (not rubbing in like sand paper of course)

For dusts, use a blower. For fingerprints, can simply use a lens tissue and wipe in a circular manner from centre of the lens outwards. For stains, use specialised lens cleaning solutions and proceed the same manner as fingerprints.

I heard Kodak Lens cleaning solution is good and is available in CP. Anyone use it b4 and what is the cost?

thank you!

Get Lens Pen. Use Lens Pen.

First blow off dust. You don't want to rub it in!!

Then use brush to brush off dust that won't blow off. Use anti-static brush.

Then blow again.

Then use lens pen to clean.

Since Lens Pen, I never use paper/cloth/lens solution anymore.

Use damp cloth to clean the lens body only.

What brand you used?
I got the brand from CP, it seem that the pen will still left some stain under
the light reflection.

There is a kind of soft 'Chamois' leather. I find very great for cleaning lenses. Most smdges from oils (mostly from my fingers and face) are lifted off rather cleanly after a few swirl and it does not lift out the coating. Buy the larger pieces, it is yellow in colour. Around $18 for around a square foot. Keep all your lens cloth in zipbloc when not in use. Do not drop them. Sand is a huge enemy, but the chamois do not take up sand and dust easily as it is quite 'dense'

For the indispensable blowers, get the 'Rocket' or a large blower. Small blowers are tough to use.

After cleaning the first time, some residue will be left behind. You have to then replace the pen cap and turn it 90 deg to recharge the tip with cleaning agent. Then clean the lens again. You should find, after a while, that the pen tip glides very smoothly over the lens and leaves no further traces of smudges.
Point to note is to not use too much force on the pen.:nono:

where can i get the Len Pen, and wat is the brand + model ??

blower is a must. can be used for all occasions. get the giottos blower. it's the rocket shaped blower. bout $9 to $12 at CP, depending on wat size u getting.

use microfibre cloth when wiping, using circular strokes. i do it gently, so as not to remove any coatings as far as i can.

if got fingerprints to lens, clean lo. if got scratches, then get new lens. haha...

get a protective filter, so even when dirty it's also the filter that gets dirty, not the glass. hope it helps.

wait... this may be a tiny silly qn... filter can clean or not har?

It is glass with some coating. It and can be cleaned like the lens. Most of the time, I am cleaning filters. Seldom the lens itself.
