Hi jk1881, I like this photo, it's lovely. For this kind of backlighting situation, the camera will underexposed to preserve details. The spraying water at the background should not look gray, but should be somewhere near white as the sun is shining from behind.

Also, expect some of the highlights(reflections) from the childrens' body to be pure white(burn out) when you edit the photo. MOst of the data should be shifted to the right hand side of the histogram if you adjust the brightness and exposure to get the spraying water look brighter. As a rough idea, it should look something like this (I add a little warm & color):
