Changmai & Northern Thailand: any travel tips to share?

Will be taking a trip to ChangMai & Northern Thailand for about 8days. I wonder if anyone have got any travel tips to share?

Yup Loy Khrathong is in Mid Novemeber.

Bring some warm clothes. It gets chilly at night.

Where people pour water on you?

It is the festival where people makes little boats and put a small candle inside and float in along the river. Very romantic at night when hundreds of boats are flowing.

Thats Songkhrang. Thats on April 13th each year. Lasts for about a week. Thats the Thai New year. The thais have their own calendar.

I heard the way they celebrate in north thailand is different from bangkok.

yes, I will be celebrating Loythrathong there too bad couldn't secure a accomodation near the mae ping river. all fully booked!so somehow I either gotta rent a bike or take a cab there.

so how's the daytime temperature?

I'm looking for to buy a fleece (polartec ones or anything that can keeps me warm, light & dries fast ), any recommendation? timberland ones too expensive!

or should I buy it there? (i.e changmai)
