Don't know whether this topic would degrade into a political discussion or not. Anyway, would like to know whether you agree the building of a casino at Sentosa.

Other point of views regarding this topic are welcome! :D

Do they allow photography in the casino??? :D

Don't know... but maybe you could, in futre, get a couple of gals there to work as freelance model for your model shoots! ;p

All this boils down to the Goverment. Anything that the Goverment has a share, they will go ahead with it. All the Goverment eying is the profits and the taxes from the casino.

Sure it may help the tour industry but how many tourist would really go into the casino to gamble? Majority are local people will go. Singapore Pools are already earning like crazy and with this coming I think those addict gamblers would be more than happy to part their money away.

Bad idea.

And no PHOTOGRAPHY is allowed. Just imagine while gambling and someone takes a picture of you. Some gamblers wouldn't like their photos to be taken, especially when they are gambling.

And the owner of the casino would not allowed as well as when anything that involves money transactions, photography is usually not allowed. Unless you are the owner of the casino.

Thank you

I have the view that if it goes through, we will not see the restrictions, set in place to safeguard the common man, hold for too long. There have been precedents for the constitution to be revised because of pressure from taxpayer.

This could end up as another classic example of saying, "The end justifies the means." Well, if we think of what the means entails --- possibility of broken families, more suicides, increased criminality, etc. Yes, it's hypothetical, but only time will sift out the truth.

So, yes...increase the income! But, do it another way!

It makes no difference if you dun have a casino... singaporeans go Genting anyway... plus it's not all together tat expensive cos u are spending in m'sia ringgit over there...

I think, having a casino is not tat a bad idea, except the fact tat it should not be just a casino and hotel... probably some shoppings area, a long seaside walk with flame throwing towers... (yea, like those u see by the South bank just outside Crown Casino, Melbourne), probably make it a great place for clubbing...

social problems? I think singapore's education standard could remedy quite a lot... tis is probably a very vague argument... anyone to top it?

singapore govt is very.. err dunno how to say. i dont think they want to build a casino on sentosa because they dont want other ppl to think that singapore need "gamble" to live. like hong kong, malaysia. they used gamble for their part of income. Maybe thats the reason why singapore dont have a casino till now.. :dunno:

u can't bring camera into gnting casino, i predict sentosa casino will be the same.
but just curious is phone camera can bring inside, just incase people use it to take snap shoot.

I don't think they even allow calculative devices (eg. calculator, pda, etc) inside. As for phones, you have to step away from the table before answering a call.

well actually you can bring a camara into the casino... but you are not allow to use it...

Eg, tourist with camera on hand pass by casino, wanted to go in... sure they won't kick business out... but you'll probably get a advise/warning not using the camera inside... else you'll see escort on its way...

i think having a casino is a fabulous idea. it's a money churner! but i also think that restricting local access in the beginning at least would be a good idea. coz if you balance our "right to gamble in singapore" on one hand with the risk of perpetuating social ills on the other.... i'd rather give up my right to gamble in singapore and avoid the risk. esp since those who really really wanna gamble can still do it overseas.

Money doesn't mean right. Drugs and prostitution are also sure money churners, that doesn't mean you want a brothel and drughouse in your backyard. It is already hypocritical of the gov to have legal red light districts in Singapore while banning Playboy magazine. Why do we want even more hyprocrisy ?

I think also restricting access effectively makes Singaporeans 2nd class in their own country, esp if construction is sponsored with taxpayers money. So tourists of all social classes, including Ang Mos who are janitors or cashiers earning minimum wage in US are allowed, but the same class of Singaporeans are not. How hypocritical is that ? Completely inexcusable. Afterall, they gov doesn't restrict people from going to Genting, taking gambling cruises, or going to the turf club.

Either they build it and let everyone in, or they dun build it at all.

Hmm... Interestingly, even though most of the opposing opinions were voiced out, there seems to be more people agreeing to the proposition. I wonder why... :dunno:

Casino is another jobs creation .... it will bring life to everythings connected to it .... more showtime, more entertainment, longer operating hours etc etc ;p

What else is connected ... which industry will boom boom

IMHO, i think it's a bit of a stretch putting gambling in the same class as prostitution, and esp drugs. and like i said, i'm in favour of restriction at least in the beginning. we're making money off the tourists, while protecting our society (to some extent lah) from social ills.

about the letting in the richer locals and not letting in other locals - i agree, that's a bit weird. heh. i'm not sure if the govt has given good enough reasons for treating us unequally.

but about letting in foreign "janitors" etc, i don't much care. maybe slightly insulting, but that's only if you're sensitive, i guess. on principle, there's no objection coz the whole idea is to make as much money off the tourists as possible. so i say, let in the "janitors"! as long as they come and spend money, i don't mind that they are allowed to enter and i'm not. *wink*

The government let a casino built here in Sydney many years ago. Everything I've heard about it or read about it is bad:

1. Parents addicted to gambling lock their kids inside the cars to the extent that they almost die of heat exhaustion. Obviously the parents absorbed with gambling have forgotten the kids outside.

2. Young mothers who are left in Sydney while the husbands are working or running business in Asia are forced into prostitution because of gambling losses

3. Retired elderly people lose their hard-earned savings in casino because they have little else to while away their free time. Worse is that they've worked in tough and unpleasant jobs for many years to save for the retirement.

4. People lose their homes because of gambling.

5. People lose their business because of gambling.

6. A friend loses A$20,000 to the casino.

7. Someone committed suicide in casino toilet.

It would be a controversial one to build one in Santosa.
