now for the serious one... is BMW stands for Bavarian Motor Works? can anybody shed some light here?

That's in English. Takes after the state of Bavaria which explains the blue-white check symbol which is similiar to the State flag. Bayerische Motoren Werke in German.

An interesting point they brought up about the Ford GT (which one of the hosts owns) on Top Gear is that if you park it beside some other cars, you're not going to be able to get out because you have to open the doors that wide to get out. The reason? Those weird bits that stick out the top of the doors that is actually part of the roof. =^/
