Canon DSLR vs Nikon DSLR

Hi. I'm currently looking to buy a decent DSLR camera. I'm relatively new to DSLR cameras but getting one cos i'm upgrading from a simple point-and-shoot camera as i'm tired of getting blurred/photos of poor qualities. I'm comparing between Canon and Nikon DSLRs. Hope you guys can advise. Thank you

There is no definate answer on which brand is better. I guess it all goes down to the feel and the controls of the camera.

both brands are good and have nice lineup . . .

You should be looking at certain models which are within your budget . . . and after which you can go and try it out yourself . . . hope it helps.

Hope you understand that DSLRs will not fix your problems. DSLR gives you better and stronger tools to capture the picture. But you need to know how to control them to get what you want. So do not assume that once you get a DSLR, all your pictures will suddenly stop being blur and your pictures will suddenly become high quality.

Canon or Nikon or Pentax or Sony don't matter. They are both capable of delivering results. And at your level, any model will work. Many differences in features makes no difference for you at your level.

You should also know that most people on the average will experience that for the initial period of owning a DSLR, the pictures all turn out much worse than from their old PnS.

we cant advise u which DSLR to get since u yourself aint sure, why do go look up for some review online from other brand too, than go tried it out yourself and see how it feels....
and u dont even give us the budget u have so hard to advise also..

P&S can get u good quality pictures if u know what you are doing. SLR does not magically cure blurred pictures.... its probably best to learn to master your equipment first and optimise yourself. People these days love throwing $$ at problems to make them go away... unfortunately the weakest link in photography usually is the photographer ;p

I recommend Nikon. I use a Nikon, like it very much. You can consider D3100 for a start. This camera has good reviews.

I have no experience in other brands.

Actually after I thought about your situation, I think you have to shoot with this one brand only to get good results. The rest all suck eggs...

Choice is clear. You need to get this camera. If not, don't even bother buying anything.

Welcome. Both are great systems actually. There are other offerings from other makers as well that will satisfy the needs of most if not all typical users.

Work within ur budget and try out the various models in ur hands in the shops.

Better gear doesnt necessarily always equal to better photos. Cameras are just tools, a dslr just gives u more control over that tool, which are both good and bad. Good if you know how to control it and makes it easier to take better pictures, bad (esp for new owners) if you get it in hopes that it'll do the controls by itself and expect it to produce good pictures automatically.

Btw TS, if you're new to dslr, ANY of the entry level offerings from all brands will suffice. Depends on ur budget, how comfortable is the handling for you, accessories, etc. Boils down to personal preference.

It TS shoot with this, confirm can become photographer for Nat Geo. :bsmilie:

you also need to upgrade your skills, just note.

and if you had bothered to do that, then you would realise that it doesn't really matter what brand you use. what others advise is what they think is right. what you should get is what is right for you. only you know that. cheers.

lol, you should know better than to ask here. Clubsnap nowadays have more clowns making stupid replies than ever before, repeating cliche statements about how you can produce wonderful pics with PNS if u know how to shoot ( read, the 10 post above mine...)

My recommendations, and i am not a clown, is both are actually the same. They can both produce excellent pics.
My preference goes to canon since i shoot with it for many years. But i've tried nikon before and they give me a better shooting experience in terms of handling..but i dun really like the colors Nikon produce..kinda reddish to me.

My suggestion is that you pick up a cheap second hand system in the B&S and try. If happy keep it, if not sell and buy another system to try again. If done properly u shouldn't have too much of a loss...
