From wat i know 250D has a rating of +4 while 500D has the rating of +2..

It is often heard and said that the 250D is suited for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 30 to 135mm. The 500D and 500 are geared for lenses with a focal length anywhere from 70 to 300mm.

does this mean tat u cannot use the 250D on lens with focal length from 70 to 300 and u cannot use the 500D on lens with focal length from 30-135?
wat will happen if u do this?

can someone explain to me? thankz
thinking of buying them. but dunno whether to buy both of them or either.

Yes you can use 250D on 70mm to 300mm and 500D on 30mm to 135mm. The specification for desire range for better magnification and less distortion. If you use 250D at 300mm, you will achieve bigger magnification but a lot of corner distortion. Likewise for 500D on 30mm to 135mm, you will not get big magnification with min. distortion.

Additional info
250D and 500D will work well with longer focal length for magnification and not lens with shorter focusing distance of 0.25m and 0.5m respectively.

Came across this thread as I was looking for similar info...

Can someone advise is there any difference between Canon 500D and Hoya's close up filter +2?

The former is $190 while the latter is $43!!!

one word: quality

The Hoya +2 does not really produce a good image. Images come out quite soft.

Ok... anyone care to share some of the shots taken with the canon close ups? Best if there is a one to one comparison!

Also anyone has a 250D or 500D with a 135mm L?

Care to share your experience if so?

Ya la... obviously but quality in terms of the glass or the picture? And is it worth the $150 difference man
low quality on glass = low quality on pic most of the time, so what do you say?
as for the extra $150, some find it worth it while some not...
as for me, if i do not need the 77mm of 500D, i will hunt for some Nikon 3T/4T/5T/6T (if i ever find one more 4T ;p)
i tried stacking 2x 4T on fz5 and nikon 50/f1.8, result is still very

Thanks for the inputs... do you know where is the best buy for the 250D or 500D?

from my experience, the quality is quite obvious at the corners. The hoya filter also produces much more distorted quality.
