Canon 550EX or Sigma EF-500 Super

The time has come for me to decide on my first external flash. But i can't decide between the Canon 550EX or the Sigma EF-500 Super. The 550EX seems to be all you could want in a flash but it costs like almost 2x that of the Sigma.

Any advice/recommendations from users of both flashes? Thanx.

well i believe that if u buy a 550 EX from canon with a canon body when the whole thing goes kaput, u can still throw it all back at canon!!!

watch out for good used 550EX in buy/sell. I got mine at a good price (a bit more than a new 420EX).

S$400, I think about a year old. you just have to be patient and keep a look out

Sigma EF500 is a poor man's flash...almost all the features at half the price of a 550EX. Used it both on an SLR and a DSLR; no problems at all. Cheaper build, but won't break on handling.
