I need your advice as I'm a newbie in photography.
Thinking of getting Canon 550D Kit II but yesterday whilst shopping around and manage to see this package for 550D.

Package
------------
Canon 550D Kit I
Canon 70-300mm
Canon 270EX speedlite or 50mm prime lens

Price: $1888

Is this worth the buy?

yes sounds quite good depending o which 70-300

550D KIT 1 ~$1280
70-300 BnS seems like its ard $700 2nd hand
dun get the speedlite, get the prime ~$125

Better call up the usual recommended shops in our priceguide and ask what deal they can offer.

'Worth buying' also depends on your needs. We can comment on the components :)
- Skip the 270 flash, get the 50mm prime lens.
- Some maths about the lens package: Looking at the latest data in Canon Price Guide the 550D kit I is offered for about $1300, 50mm lens is about $125, flash is about $160. All together already close to $1600, leaving $288 for the telephoto zoom. The 70-300 IS USM alone is about $1300. How likely is it that a lens of more than $1000 suddenly comes that cheap in a kit package?
My guess: the lens is the 75-300, a rather abysmal lens which is not really worth buying. Mustafa once sold an older version for $99. It seems some shops have some stock of this lens and want to clear it. If you know that you want to have a longer lens then top up a bit and get the 55-250, currently going below $400.
But if you are new to the whole topic then stick to the kit and skip everything else. No point getting any package with the idea "let's see what to do later", that's wasting money. Know what you need, get only what you need.

same thinking.. i think the lens should be 75-300 not 70-300..
if is 70-300 maybe its worth getting.
if 75-300, i dont think is worth.
