canon 50mm f1.8 II reverse question

I know this topic has been discussed before but just want to be 100% sure before I start to DIY the adaptor to the 350D.

1) how to control aperture if the 50mm II do not have a manual setting?

2) Is the sequence correct?

Cam--> adaptor ---> reversed 50mm

3) How to control shutter speed?

DIY adaptor: machine hole for 52mm filter and epoxy glue into position on to cap.

why dont you just get a reverse ring? if not better make sure you glue securely....or lose a 50mm lens ;p

The 50mm have manual aperture but my one don't have.

FOC because spent too much $$ recently.

on the reversed EF 50mm, aperture will be always wide open @ f1.8. Unless you use a manual lens with aperture controls, or a nikon lens.

better get a 52mm reverse ring, save the trouble of DIY

Tried out with handheld ealier and true aperture default = O ... think it is 1.8. DOF is paper thin.. Not good.

Tried 50mm normal mount with 2x 4T (nikon @ ~ +6 diopter). Result ok but mag not high enough ~ 0.45 x.

1) Mount the 50mm, dial the desired aperture on Av or M mode, press DOF preview, then remove the lens without releasing the DOF preview button.
In this way, your aperture will be fixed. If you want to adjust it, you will need to re-do the procedure above.
It would be better if you can get a cheap manual lens with aperture ring.

2) Yes, the sequence is correct.

3) TTL metering works with reverse lens. You can still dial any shutter speed you want.

Point 1 like very hard to perform on the ground. will give this a miss.

Wonder how the performance will be like if one 50mm normal mount to cam and followed by another 50mm reverse mount?

If not wrong should be getting like 2x (assuiming reverse 50mm ~ +25 and 1.6 on 350D factor)

Theoretically, It should give you around 1.5X. But you will have an evident vignetting there. Reversing 50/1.8 on 105mm (e.g. A70) will have a slight vignetting already.
