Gosh... after reading the D60 rumours.. looks like I've got no choice but to get the 1D instead.

Now planning a shopping list... what else do I need to get??

Canon 1D - $11k
70-200mm IS USM
1GB Microdrive
UV Filter
Speedlite ?? EX
Additional Battery Pack??

Anybody familiar with the prices??

*Choke* *Choke*... dunno if I can raise enough to get all the 3 lenses or not.. maybe will get the 70-200 first hand and another one 2nd hand....

Any other brands of lenses I can fit on the 1D???

In addition

A good ballhead
A good tripod
An extra battery pack or two
Since Microdrives are cheap now, just get two 1gb.

Since you like wildlife photography, a telephoto prime might be a good idea. A 300 or 400 f/4 would be a good idea too.

I call them "The 3".

Tokina, Tamron, Sigma etc makes lenses that can fit Canon bodies, but trust me, you'll want the original Canon. But still,
you can buy

Sigma 17-35 f2.8 or Sigma 15-30 f3.5-4.5
Sigma 24-70 f2.8
Sigma 70-200 f2.8

For Tokina, we have :
Tokina 20-35 f2.8
Tokina 28-70 f2.6-2.8
Tokina 80-200 f2.8

Or just get a Canon EF 35mm f2 as your "normal" lens and either the Canon or Sigma 70-200.

Why fit 2nd class lenses on the 1D? The 1D is a pro body, you might as well get L glass for it.

Heheh. "use first", upgrade later. :p But of all things, avoid things like 28-200, 28-300, 24-200, etc. :)

Which bag do u recommend?? Assuming carrying 1D body, 3 canon lenses and other accessories??

Samuel from John 3:16 told me the 1D is below $10k. So that's good news for people wanting to buy it! :)

Hi Willy,

Nice one, congratulations on deciding to take the plunge. I'm just curious, what of the D60 do you find disagreeable? It seems like a good camera, and would allow you to fit the Canon lenses into your budget without having to resort to third party stuff.

You would want the 'L' lenses. Used together with the 1D, its weather - proof.

but only the latest generation 70-200 f2.8L IS USM and the 16-35 f2.8L USM has rubber gaskets over the lens mount to prevent anything getting in through the mount.

provided u dun do anything stupid, like changing lenses in the rain, it should be as weatherproof as u can ever get ;)

They are not all 2nd class lenses. Some are very good.
