That's 5R, not 5N

you need the app, and it's called PlayMemories Mobile.

it only works with the NEX-5R, NEX-6 and certain Handycams and Cyber-shots that have built-in Wi-Fi.

and no, your 5N can't do it with a firmware update. it doesn't have a built-in Wi-Fi Card.

Saw this app on Play.google - PhotoIRmote, NEX-5 are being supported (not sure about NEX-5N though).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wegroo.ircamshooter&feature=search_result#?t=W10.

But you need to buy that app, another app was the IR DSLR (which was in korean... and I know nuts about Korean).

why do that when you can use the IR Remote RMT-DSLR1 or RMT-DSLR2 to trigger the shutter? not forgetting third party IR Remotes as well.

I just bought a 3rd party remote for a few bucks but can only trigger + 2 sec timer cannot "hold" for longer exposure, but !

I think it's possible to achieve longer exposure time. Try using shutter priority to set a slower shutter speed or go full manual and go to bulb mode. When in bulb mode, the first click opens the shutter, and pressing the remote again closes it.

I have used a 3rd party IR remote for my NEX 6 previously and it allowed me to do the abovementioned.
