a 52mm infrared red filter is listed at $30++, so you probably can get it for less. There's another 52mm one listed for ~$195 though.

just take a remote control and start pressing buttons.. if u can see the beam shining on, and off ur camera is fine, if the shine is bright then ur camera is suitable like the C2100uz pictured below, unlike my c700 that can barely see the shines...

yup, I can see the beam shining on and off when i use the G2's remote control. But is the use of a IR filter required??

yes. if not the other spectrum of light would dominate the pic and you can't capture any infrared red shots.
