Camera/lens for vacation

Hi all, I'm going for vacation to Melbourne next week and need advice on which camera/lenses to bring. Got a G2 and a Dynax 5. Prefer the SLR but am afraid of spending too much money developing film (at least 6 rolls for 5 days). But I'm not very used to the G2, esp the shutter lag, and only have one 128mb and one 32mb CF card. If i choose the Dynax 5, should i use the 28-80mm or 75-300? I'm hoping to take landscape, architecture and street photos. Thx!

Hmmm....given the subjects you shoot, I think you should bring both lenses. The 28-80 for landscapes and streetscapes and you might want to use the 75-300 for isolating some architectural details. Great architectural subjects here!!!

Btw, I'm in Melbourne. Let me know where you'll be coming. Maybe we can meet up?

Also, bring your own film, bring extra even. Films are very expensive here.

Thx for the tip-off about film. I thot the best is to bring both lenses too. Good thing my porter (brother) is coming with me! We haven't planned exactly which places to visit in Melbourne, but I expect I'll spend a long time just taking photos. Do you know if there are any shops (can be secondhand) tt have a good range of photography books? I'm looking for Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure.

You can try Technical Bookshop at Swanston Street, 5 mins walk from Melbourne Central. Alternatively. McGill at Elizabeth Street, which is about 10-15 mins walk from there.

Good sites for photo opportunities in the city(well, to me at least), are South Bank(near where I live), Crown Casino, Victoria Market, Lygon Street and the viewing deck at Rialto Tower. Enjoy your stay.

Dun miss victoria market keke ... i think if i remember correctly every wed nite will have a bazaar there. Alot of stuffs to look at and eat

Will try to do that. Now trying to decide whether to bring a tripod or not, on top of the Ultrapod. Decision, decisions...

one problem is the weather in melbourne, now is autumn but it might be as cold as winter. it will be cloudy or hazy too where u cant take any good photo.

I think it's a must if you decided to go Great ocean rd .. u will spend at least the whole day there...

Do visit the Nike warehouse if you are Nike/sport fan ..

The weather in Melbourne has been wet for the past few days. No haze but pretty cloudy. About 15 deg max, not as cold as winter.

Try your best to bring a decent tripod.
