~Take using your DSLR and zoom in Big, Big to see the sharpness...1.
~Borrow a laptop from your friend...2.
~My question here is...How people buy sharp lenses during the film days...?...3.
_Answer: Just buy lor...Other use before and many people say it is sharp than buy lor...;)
________Actually by this way you don't even need to test the lenses...:bsmilie:

Exactly what I've said to some people. :) Anyway, sharpness is a relative thing, differs from people to people. Just buy and use it, if theres anything terribly wrong with it (and your technique is correct yadayada) then go back to the shop to change for another copy. 101 reasons why I patronize certain shops that have good customer service.

bring 4 AA batts to the shop. shoot the lens wide open. e.g. if tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, set to Av mode and select f/2.8

place the batts in a straight line. see simple diagram below

Batteries in a line

1

2

3

4

take your cam and shoot at 45 degree angle at the batt, aiming at batt 2 or batt 3. check LCD monitor. if you focused on batt 2, then batt 2 should be sharp, the other batts 1,3,4 shd be out of focus.

just liddat u can test for back/front focusing.

Great thanks for your pointer.
So you mean the nearer/front? one (no.1) and far/back? (no.3 & 4 ) out of focus and just no.2 ( sharp/in focus) ?
