Take a look at websites like jr.com and calculate.

A couple of things to consider

You may need to pay gst when you import into Singapore and there may be an issue with the the plug if it is only set up for 110v and not 230v

yes very much cheaper... a lenovo T400 costs US$799, and i have 15% discount code...but you will have to factor in shipping and GST.

i bought a T61 15" maxed out, and it only came up to US$900+. it's retailing for about S$3k in singapore

Lets say that I'm going on a trip to US on a short holiday trip. I heard that buying online is cheaper than getting in stores, but I do not have a pernament address for them to deliver over (It takes >3days for delivery). What is the usual practise for tourists to buy laptops there? And how to waive off the US GST? Is the US airport the only way to redeem the GST?

Normally do you buy the laptop via online or at the shop when you are in america?

Buy online. Most shops jack up their price way high.
