Hi fellow CS members,
On the 21/12/2011, I sold my 60D with 17-85 f4-5.6 IS USM lens and 50mm f1.8 lens to a CS forumer. The buyer even asked me whether I stole this set or the set was genuinely mine, I was shocked since it was the first time ever I came across a buyer that asked me that type of question. As a proof that the camera was mine, I showed both my ID and the warranty cards were tallied.
All the equipments were tested and checked by the buyer. Buyer decided to buy from me after much checking and testing the equipments for $1500.
Later that night, I received a sms from buyer stating that there's some scratches on rear elements of both lens. I asked him how bad was it, he replied only minor scratches.
On the 12/01/2012, he sms me that the 17-85mm lens had a broken ribbon cable which leads to the diaphragm blades not able to move and he want a full refund and return the camera and sets to me. It's impossible that the lens has broken ribbon cable because when he checked and tested the lens during the deal no problem was found.
When I used the camera with the 17-85mm lens no such problem occurred to me. I also found out that the buyer may be trying to sell away the 17-85 lens he bought from me stating that the lens is in good condition. The funny thing is he sms today stating that he will keep the 50mm lens and returned back the camera and 17-85mm lens to me for a refund. I find it fishy why would he want to return the camera body too.
He have been using the camera for 3 weeks and he's expecting a full refund. The camera and 50mm lens warranties ends on 24/04/12 and 14/08/2012. No warranties for the 17-85mm lens. The camera shutter counts is less than 10k.
I have sold a DSLR body and a few lens before so far I got no problem with other buyers. I need your opinion guys! May I know what can cause a broken ribbon cable in a lens?
Thanks!
