Let's tread carefully here, political discussions are off limits.
On a general note I have to disagree with you. Casting the vote for a certain party does not mean to give blind faith (a word that is entirely wrong in this context) and 'card blanche' for the entire period till the next elections. On the contrary, in a democracy citizens still have the right and the responsibility to check the government and to express their political opinion. For this, there are several instruments and avenues.
For this, I agree with pinholecam: do not keep quiet if you disagree, use what is given to express your opinion and shape the decision.
Is SG population growing significantly? You need more major transportation infastucture to support population? Surely small electric cars for everyone would be a more noble project maybe (and create more jobs possibly)? No parking right... A few billion plus the inevitable overrun is a lot of dough. Is there some choice property on the other side of the hill where these subways will go?

Singapore should have the vision, the ability to see the big picture and the courage to take risks.
Given a choice, I would prefer not to touch our limited nature reserved. But if it is for survival, we have no choice but to do what is needed. If the 'round trip' is about an additional 5 mins or $2 billion and nothing else, I won't vote for it. We all can afford more than 5 mins per trip. $2 billions can be worked out by not spending $39 M for National Day celebration and many other extravagant events. Celebration is about people coming together anywhere, not how much you spent.
Please don't get brainwashed by the American big brothers.
They want you to preserve your nature and do not progress and develop so that we remain a third world country forever needing their economic aids and military support.
Well said and many have fallen into their trap not just about environmental but many other aspect. However, we all know Singapore is a tiny or little dot as pointed by somebody, we cannot take it too easy when we use up any part of this dot and left with nothing also. We owe it to our future generations. Let's keep some and you will never know one day, there isn't a need to tunnel through to get across that little patch of green.

There is CNA's "It figures" program tonite featuring "Deep Tunneling" under proposed
nature reserve @ 8.00 pm..Govt already drilling bore holes to determine depth of granite
layer.AS reported in news there will be impact on nature weighed against efficiency of a
straight rail track versus go-around curved track meaning more wear and tear of rail
assets and maintenance.( Caught between devil and deep blue sea. ) Residents of thomson
stretch of go-around alternative route complain there will be inconvenience,noise polution
and aquisition of their residential properties ( Not in my backyard attitude, not ok with residents but ok for flora and animals.) Govt "position" is for going through nature reserve but because of
public outcry will wait for environmental impact assessment report (EIA).Drilling
and asessment study will take 2 yrs.before final decision.
To be frank, what the public thinks of nature reserve ( that it is large and whole/intact ) is actually fragmented because of urban development.Areas that are "cut off" have
no gauranty it will remain as diverse in terms of biodiversity.Human encroachment towards
nature do have impact.Are we willing accept the long term costs vs convenience/efficiency.
