Hi

I purchased a Sony VCT-80AV tripod and it comes with an LANC cable.

The cable now it cut due to tangling while packing.

Does anyone know how to fix it or has fixed it before?

Can it be fixed at all?

I've checked with sony care and they told me that they dont have the spare part and it may take 2-3weeks if they have to order it from overseas.

Any help is appreciated

Thank you so much.

I would order the part from Sony, and if I needed to use LANC in the meantime, I would just splice the cut wires back together and tape it up temporarily to prevent shorting. The wires are colour coded so it should be quite straight forward.

Thanks a lot jaegersing. I guess I'm going to do that..I'll cut open and try to fix it temporarily. I didnt know it was color coded. That should make things easy to fix. :)

My Manfrotto LANC cable started to disintegrate some time ago, and I had to repair it temporarily while waiting for a replacement. The inner wires were coded. I'm not absolutely certain that the Sony cable wires are coded too, but most likely they will be because it makes it much easier during the manufacturing.

Thanks. Do you know how much the manfrotto tripods with LANC cost? I dont find the sony ones steady enough though I only use a handycam.

The Manfrotto LANC controller comes as an arm that replaces the pan handle on your tripod, or as a unit that attaches to your existing pan handle. So they can be used with many types of tripod, and they're not restricted to Manfrotto brands either.

You can see here what the Manfrotto controllers look like:

And here's some price examples:

I finally got it fixed from a friend who owns a shop that sells Aero modelling stuff and also does repairs. A Job so well done I'm so happy.
