Just upgraded from 512k to 1500k, but did not realise any speed increase. Did a broadband speed test and it showed a very low speed connection. Is it a norm? Is there any way (configurations?) to speed up?

tia !

you may want to call your ISP anc check with them. that's the best.
or you may want to reboot your system.:)

http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks
for tweaks.. my 512k registers 400kbps can't rem which site.. but you need to use local site to test..
I tried a malaysian one
http://219.93.175.234:8080/speedometer/deleteUploadedftpfile.jsp?ts=2006-01-28_09_20_44.81
using here mine is 312.8 hmmm
http://speedtest.raketforskning.com/speed-test-results.html
and a swedish site i got 448
so geographical location doesn't mean best and fastest..

here's from the FAQ
Why do I get very different results from different test servers?

Poor performance on one test server indicates the path from your machine to that test server is currently congested. Generally, the results from this test should be close, but less, than your rated (purchased) line speed. If you can get close to 70% of your rated line speed, everything is perfect!

I've got a 1.5MB link. Results:

903.2 kilobits per second

Communications 903.2 kilobits per second
Storage 110.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download 9.3 seconds
Subjective rating Good

Please also check if your micro filter is installed properly (if you have multiple wall sockets).

Using the Swedish site, I got:
1371 kbps 1.5 MbpsSpeed test completed successfully.

1640.8 KB downloaded in 9.58 seconds.
This gives a download speed of

1371 kbps or 171.33 KB/s

This is very near to the 1.5M link connection. Also, the time that you took the test is important. For Singapore, it's much faster connecting in the morning than at night.

I think a more accurate test would be to go to this link provided by Singnet, for other ISP I dunno...

http://www.singnet.com.sg/technical/helptools/

I was told to select 'Quick Test approx 1MB' and then click on FTP. I got a response of 2705.43 kbits/sec. That makes it around 2.96 secs for a 1MB download. Hmmm.. I'm paying for a 10Mbps BB and got this only, I wonder if others are getting similar results.

Please share what do you get with this test, would like to compare if we are all getting what we paid for, thanks in advance.

hehehe... I just called Singnet and they said that I should be getting higher than what I got now, so they are sending their men to check my place on Monday. Can you believe that on a public holiday.

They better not be charging me. 1582kbps that's as close as what you should be getting, at least you know you got what you paid for.
