The headline in Today's paper (3rd Jan 2007) quote our PM that people
of different faiths must reach out and get to know each other. I think
it is still not to late for such a request though it should have been some
ten years ago.

Now, looking at the various faiths I can only think of ten namely:

Islam, Buddhism, Catholic, Taoism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism,
Judaism, Confucianism and other Christianity such as Methodist,
Angelican etc. There are still other faiths such as Bahai Faith,
Unification Church and Zoroastrianism.

The time to call more more harmony among living human beings
is right especially in Singapore as Ven Chin Kung age 79 put it:
"Singapore is the first country to attain religious harmony and serves
as a very good role model to the rest of the world".

He even suggest that we should set up an educational institution
of higher learning where students from all over the world can come
together to study and compare the teachings of other faiths.

Well, the Americans have done it and some of our secondary schools
have also gone into the basics of the various faiths. What are
your views on the above?

Will not work, as long as 3 of the major religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam are at odds with each other. The irony is, all 3 are related with each other.

touchy issue.. I have friends from the major religions in sg and I have no problem communicating with them. :D

Today it is no more a touchy issue. It is a subject that every
human being must learn and relearn and compare the differences
in their beliefs so that the world can be in more harmony and
people will not have so much hatred for one another.

There is one major section where you missed out in your poll: " NO " religion

totally agree

it's a blessing to be able to live in an environment with diversed religious practices. it's a shame to lock oneself in one's reluctance to learn about other religions.

trust me.. it still happens even amongst my friends, some openly put down another's religion in open in their faces.

what we have in Singapore is but a fine line. It is remarkable that different religions can get together but seriously how deep is it or is it just for show? Frankly for every person who is tolerant of other religions, there are a few that are extremists. The worst thing is these "extremists" can be your friends, relatives and even parents.. Why I say that?

have you heard the following?

Older Chinese people saying

"Dont marry malay whatever you do!! Must become muslim after that!"

Christians saying

"According to the bible, all other Gods are false gods and I cannot hold joss sticks and take part in traditional Chinese ceremonies as it is against God's teachings"

Actually I personally think Religion divides people as everyone gets so caught up with the superiority of one's religion and wants to impose it on others.

So true. But I would like to make a minor correction, it's not the religion, but the churches, the temples, the mosques and the synagodes. It's the people who organised these religion that is so caught up. Sad.

Agree with another psoter, why is none of the above a choice in the poll?

Don't you think sometimes Men is more powerful than God. The men can decide what to add or subtract from the book and etc........

When there is Sion, there is eikin. Where is HS????

You are me who creates tree har.... Wait I check google.....

to me.. life is precious, short and fragile.. there are so many wonderful things to see, hear and experience in life.. for photographers ; there are countless places of great beauty to shoot.

it is sad to see men fighting and destroying friendship or even marriage just for their sake of religion ?

we are breathing the same oxygen ! came to earth empty handed.. and will go back to earth some day in the same way. .. what so special ?

Very simple, people with no religion can participate in this thread
and make it known that they have no faith. I feel that there are
many seculars, the untempled, unmosquesed and the unchurched
who often like to be known as "free thinkers".

As humans we must appreciate these people who prefer no faith in
any beliefs, religions or rituals. My question is:

Can a society or person be moral without religion or beliefs?
What is the purpose and function of these religions and beliefs?

At last I found someone on the Net who has similiar foundation
regarding the sadness and shamefulness of finding so many poor
ignorant souls all locked up because of their reluctance to realise
their higher self and learn more about the orgin of religions, the whys
including the cruelity that has gone into it through human selfishness.

The final results can be seem in history as well as in modern warfares
among the countries in the world.
