Breakdown on North-South MRT Line

Quote from sg.news.yahoo.com
"One user Melvin Huang said, "Yes. We are stuck in the train between Orchard station and a woman just fainted. The driver is not talking to us. We manage to force open a door."
Even with the aircon, some of the train already quite warm inside especially during peak hour... imagine getting stuck inside for more than an hour without aircon... faint!

Ehem..... Wat to do... It happened...

When this situation is encountered, remain calm, try to space out for better ventilation and consider to give assistance to the needy. Your thoughtfulness will be appreciated by many :)

Don't over-react. This is just fair wear and tear of the mrt power rail. Even old cameras breakdown and need servicing.
The smrt staff should get the commuters out instead of waiting for them to smash the windows to get air.
My guess is that the smrt staff were clueless what to do and because it is not in the "format", they stop thinking or are afraid to take initiative how to deal. Thus they just sit and wait for smrt top management directions - not sure if any one took charge of the situation. If they did not, then it is extremely bad.

saw news tat angry passengers confronted the smrt staffs... really don understand why they have to do this? The staffs might also not known wat's happening, even if they know wat can they do? Wat passenger can do are to leave the station and think of ways to go home, not wasting time shouting at the smrt staffs. The staffs are just like us working only... why vent anger on them?
Now a day people in singapore (both local and foreigner) are too pamper, spoon-feeding and becoming complaint-king/queen. Seem like spending $1 and need to receive $2 type of service...

not having any contigency plans to handle such situations is unacceptable... smrt never expected such things to happen???? and if they do have such plans how come the situation was so chaotic.... but I agree that people should not shout at the staff...... but dun agree with the spend $1 and need to receive 2 service...smrt is not that good...

it's times like this that Singaporeans' characters really shine!!

hahahahahah

It is a clear case the HQ control never communicate staffs and drivers properly. As the train were halt, drivers are not able to determine whether to let passengers escape as the service may still recoverable. The MRT staffs are not have an easy time during this period also.

SMRT must start to review their maintenance procedure, HK MTR runs longer operation hours, and older. Not 100% fault free, and more expensive than Singapore, but at least the service is more up to standard.

If I not wrong, our SMRT is also using a quite old train separation software. May be some train fans can provide more info on this.

there's a thin line between being an idiot and having fun. especially when the joke is on the person who thought what could be a joke actually trolled him/herself by having a lousy command of the english language.

i laugh at you

FYI....

1) The backup batteries inside each train last for around 40-45mins at the most... these batteries power ventilation, emergency lighting and communication. I believe that the train with its window smash... was in blackout mode for over 40min.

2) Problem occurred underground... unlike the newer built tunnel, there is no walkway inside the tunnel. Which meant that staff can't get access to the track easily when there is train inside the tunnel, blocking them. Also... being peak hour, traffic is a problem for staff with heavy equipment to be deployed from depots to trouble area.

3) Yes... a full review is needed. Its time that both LTA and SMRT to wake up.
