Very nite shot, just a bit overexposed!

how to correct that? change the shutter timing to say 1 sec instead of 2?

Hi fcpga,

The problem is that you are taking a scene where the contrast between the bright and the dark area is too high. If you reduce the exposure, the buildings at the background will be very much underexposed (in fact they are already quite underexposed). It is better to recompose/reposition to get rid of the very bright area, in this case the lower right portion. It would also be helpful to keep the buildings straight, especial the center ones (you shot is a bit slanted). Try taking the skyline at marina promenade, the exposure is easier and I'm quite sure you will get good results after a few tries. ;)

can use spot metering if you wan.

spot metering, aim where to shoot?

To add on to ziploc, one very good tip on shooting nightshots like this is to shoot it at around 7:15-45pm, before the sky has turned completely black. It will look nicer, and the contrast range will be lower, so it will be easier for the camera to handle. And you will not almost totally lose the buildings in the background.

Regards
CK
