Interesting patterns.

However, I wonder whether the composition can be better if the eyes of the animals are not right in the centre of the frame and whether you should zoom in more to isolate or zoom out to include more.

Symmetry can be boring sometimes. So I was thinking of this (shifting your camera lower and to the left to include more of the left zerbra and cut off more of the right zebra. In addition, include more lower wood and rock) :

Another possibility to avoid centering :

To me, the impact is definitely there but not sure whether it's good or bad.

When I look at the picture, I can feel the tension in my head as the patterns cause my eyes to swirl.

It's actually partially because of a minor accident 15 years when I was on the roller-coaster at Ocean Park in HK. The coins in my shirt pocket fell onto the floor of the car when the car made the first 360 degree upwards front-to-back somersault. When I immediately bent down to pick them up with my head lowered, the car made another 2 x 360 degree and I went giddy. After that ride, I become quite sensitive to motion and suffer slight tension in my head whenever I perceive certain type of motion (such as on a boat). Otherwise, no problem when on cars, bus, planes etc.
