black/white filters?

Hi fellow nikonians

need help regarding filters
is that black/white filters in the market to help in taking b/w pics?
if there is then does it looks different than those edited by ps?

yes. red filter increase the contrast for the skies and clouds, green for taking photos of people. nice skin tones. but thats just for me. try afew and see what you like.

I use dark red and green/yellow filters for b&w photos. Brings out contrast and skin tones.

of course we are talking about film here... if digital, no need to use any filters

there is no filter that produces a black and white image out of what is originally color. either you use b/w film, or use photoshop... in the case of b/w film, the filters that were earlier recommended may be used to improve contrast etc... those fiilter techniques may be duplicated in photoshop as well.. cheers.

yellow filter most common for b+w film
red next most common, then green

Photoshop creates some effect
but if you shot b+w film with filter, the original neg is the unadulterated source.
