black and white plus colour?

hi,a real green horn here
just saw some postings.some wonderful pics that r black and white,yet some objects in the pic has colour?
how is this done?thru softwares?
erm,how can i learn how to do this?
thanx if u guys can help

I do it via adobe photoshop. basically take a colour image, desaturate it to black and white, and use the history brush to undo the changes to the parts u want to be coloured. Alternatively, create a separate layer on top of the coloured original, desaturate it and erase the parts you want to be coloured.

seems like theres really loads to learn.haha
is ur fotoshop self taught?
where u picked it up from?
 

Photoshop skills can be picked up by reading books from the library, and trial and error. With digital imaging, skills in photoshop are almost a must.
 

Its actually quite simple. Use photoshop to desaturate the picture and then using the history brush tool, paint over the portion you want to be in colour....
