Best Wide Angle Lens for Canon 50D?

For Canon crop body --> EF-S 10-22mm (if only choose from Canon brand lens)

This has been discussed quite a lot. Depends what you want. Search for some old threads
If Only want canon - EFS 10-20
Large aperture - Tokina 11-16 - drawback - flare a lot.

Above 2 are very good.
Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 is a good value for money lens.

uber wide, the sigma 8-16mm. the only one of its kind.

ask yourself what you need from your lens first. If you need a wide aperture, than Tokina 11-16 f2.8, if you want a better range, than Canon 10-22 f3.5-4.5, if you're on a tight budget, then Sigma 10-20 f4-5.6
There's no best lenses, only lenses that best fit your needs. And erm sorry if I got it wrong, but if you didn't understand what I said above (with all the technical terms and all), I suggest reading up about basic photography first before deciding to buy anything

+1
for 10 words

budget - sigma 1020
investment - canon 1022
lots of money - sigma 816

If you are not looking @ UWA, the 17-40 f4L is a good choice too.

If Canon only, the EFS 10-22mm is the pick, else the WA lens EFS 17-55mm is another excellent choice.

If you don't mind 3rd party, you can go for Tokina 11-16mm or Sigma 10-20mm. Currently, I'm using the Tokina 11-16/2.8 and I'm loving it.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm also currently lookin at the Canon 17-40mm or the 24-105mm lenses. The 10-20mm is awesome even for non-full-frame DSLRs but it's kinda pricey. So between the sigma 10-20 and the canon 10-22, the canon 10-22 is better?

I have tried the Sigma 10-20mm and I must admit that the bokeh is very good. Not sure about the Canon EFS 10-22 as I've yet to try it.

would 24L II be considered a wide angle lens?

read up on tokina 124. Its pretty good. I use it with my 50D. =D

b/w the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and the Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, which would u guys choose? It's a pretty hard decision because the tokina has a lower aperture but the canon has a longer range.

17-40L is as wide as it gets for me, without having to keep on swapping lens for the walkabout right after. :D

It depends on what you want, again.
EFS - wider, more range, better flare resistant.
Tokina - larger aperture, slightly cheap (different less than SGD60 if not wrong)

Sharpness, both almost same.

So to choose: if you want large aperture - Tokina, if not, get EFS.
This is a simple way. Best is to try it out.

How about the Tamron 10-24mm? Its quite like the sigma 10-20 in terms of price range, and it has the advantage of being f/3.5-4.5 instead of f/4-f/5.6. Its also 4mm more tele.

you may consider tokina 12-24 f/4 but only some stores have stock
:)
