Hi all

anyone pls suggest me which is best Travel & general purpose lens for Dx body such as Nikon D7000?

NIKON 18-200mm VR II or
Sigma 18-250mm OS or
Tamron 18-270mm VC ?

pls adivce as per your experiences?

out of ur 3 choices, i would go for the nikon 18-200...now there is a 18-300 which has en even longer reach...

but personally, when i was using dx bodies, i like the 16-85...match it with a 70-300VR and it's a sweet combo

They all work fine, and I'd be alright with any of the three lenses. Other then the obvious differences in focal length, efficacy of the image stabilizer and possibly the speed of focusing, which are minor differences in my opinion, they all work fine.

I have the Sigma 18-250mm with my D7000. Works fine though there's occasionally 'stuck' focus at mid-zoom focal lengths and beyond. When I'm traveling and not using my micro-four-thirds, the Sigma 18-250mm + D7000 does duty for pictures on trips. The lens seems quite cheap now too.

If you want after sales service go with Nikon, on the other end of the spectrum is Sigma.

How about pair 16-85 with 70-200mm f/4 lens? I'm think about that combo....

Hi, have u consider prime? They are generally lighter, faster n have better optics

If one lens, the Nikon 18-200vr2 or simply a 35/1.8.

Nikon lens. But depending on where you are going. Those extension in super zooms sure suck in a lot of dust. They are not as weather resistant.

personally im only using two lens for travel,
a 17-50 f/2.8 and a 35mm f/1.8 on d7000 body.

i used to have a 70-200, 24-105, 50, 10-20 and 12-24 lens with im still using canon and pentax/olympus. but since i stick to street photography, thats only my lenses.

but on the aboev shoices, i'll go for nikon :)

hope that helps.

16-85vr + 70-200 f/4 would be sweet too...if u dun mind the cost...

i own the 70-200 f/4, it's a sweet sweet lense to hv along.

i likes what Duffy said... i would rather go for tamron 17-50 F2.8 (day shots) and a 35mm F1.8 for night shots... Frankly speaking with a 18-200 or 300mm how many times will u really use the telephoto.. the smaller aperture hole means u need more lights at the telephoto end too.. check the focal length of all yr travel shots.. how many of them are 100mm and above?? And to add to this most super zoom got ugly distortion wide..

another good and cheap alternative is nikon 18-70mm or the 18-105mm(if u dun mind the plastic mount) and 35mm f1.8....

75% of my images are 85mm above. Portraiture to Landscape. :D

Given these choices, go with the Nikon. Alternatively, get the 16-85 which gives better IQ & a reach ideal for landscapes & portraits.

In your case I would choose the Nikon. But for me I use the sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS when I travel..

I've been using the 18-200 Nikkor with a D80 & D7000 body & am pleased with the weight to image quality ratio. It was a little soft on my D80, but is very crisp on the D7000. I couple this with the 12-24/f4 and a 50 mm prime to have a nice lightweight travel package.

I'm deciding on whether to get the Nikon 18-200mm or the 18-300mm, the price different is about $300 and the weight different is about 300g. Which one would be the better choice? Has anyone actually own a 18-200 then upgrade to a 18-300? Maybe cam share your view. Thanks.

Having used a Sigma 18-200 non-OS and Nikon 18-200 VRI and now using a Nikon 18-200 VRII and Tamron 18-270, my preferred lens would still be a Nikon 18-200 as I find it smoother to use and more compact.

i would prefer a 18-200 over a 18-270 or 18-300 as the lens would be slightly faster, lighter, sharper and easier to grab a shot. Having said that I must also say I frequently shoot at the maximum 200mm thus I do value a long telephoto reach. I only use my 18-270 locally and when I know I would mostly shoot at max telephoto.

i also find my 12-24 a good combo to bring along for travel.

I travel a lot every 3 months and in he past I always bring along with me the 12-24mm / 24-70mm & 70-200mm. I find it not practical as its either too small or too big. After learning from bad experience I just bring along only one lens 17-55mm f2.8 wide zoom this is the most sensible lens for travel use not too light and not too heavy. When in a tour the moment your plane touch down they will straight away transfer to a bus and bring you on a tour and after that for lunch or dinner and back to your hotel and don't even have time for a bath.. The next day the circle continued all over again. Its quite a hassle and tiring.
