Can anyone advice if Benro Tripod are good?
I own one of their aluminum tripods and I find it to be great value. I bought it in Beijing, with help from a friend who lives there and is ruthless in her bargaining (I started feeling bad for the storekeeper after a while :bsmilie
The legs are very solid and sturdy. They're unfortunately not light. I was seriously tempted to get the CF legs but I didn't have enough cash with me that day.
Every time I recommend Benro tripod to someone, that person ends up buying Manfrotto legs. Let me know if you do end up with Manfrotto at the end of the day as well - I won't be offended in the least, just amused.
I'm not so sure about the quality of their ballheads though. Reviews of those is more mixed.
The story I heard about Benro (not sure about authenticity) is that Gitzo approached someone in China and wanted to outsource their production, providing production line plans, etc. That person / company promptly built two identical factories, with the other producing Benro tripods. Like I said, don't know if it is true, but you have to admit it is a great story.
Do you think i need to get a good tripod?
Get a good one, or don't get one. As someone pointed out to me in another thread, determining what is "good" or "good enough for you" is a whole different matter.
