just wondering bout the prices and wat sorta SLRs are there out in the market?
wat accessories make up the basic set as well?

new to this so hope u all can help out thanks :)

eh toking bout film SLRs to make the picture a bit clearer :p

[ahem shameless plug for my cam...]

anyway

body - from 200 to 3000
lenses - from 200 to 4k+
flash - from 50 to 600
grip - 100-300+
filters - 10-200+
tripod - 30-1000+
bag -30-200?

I'm also a beginner, so I'll just tell you what I bought. Prices are approximate...

FM2 (Black) $930
Nikon 50MM 1.4 lens $450
Manfrotto tripod $120
Shutter release cable $10
UV filter $10

Still to buy... a flash.

My super basic setup:

All 2nd hand...

Fujica M42 mount Body: $80
Carl Zeiss Jena 29mm: $120
Carl Zeiss Jena 135mm: Around $100+
Meyer Optics Gorlitz Oreston 50mm(cheap cheap, bought in a set)

For leisurely and planned shots(as I seldom am able to take snapshots doing manual focussing), I feel I prefer my shots using this to my fren's F80 kit, hehehe...

I damn poor, but want to play with photography so M42 moount is the way for me to go. They have some gem of a lens in M42.

Ah yes, cheap way to start photography.. if you're cash strapped it's a good way to start!

Basic accessories goes like this:

1) Filters/ UV guard
2) Tripod
3) External flash (optional but you will need it eventually)
4) Camera bag to fit all (minus tripod)

:light:

not exactly sure about the authencity of the statement BUT there's is a significant improvement in the sharpness of my shots after discarding those original plastic lens for my current ones...:D

but izzit true that if you buy cheap lenses, most probably ur pix will turn out like those taken wif a p&s camera? *read dat somewhere...but forgot where*

To put it this way, the camera body is just a box to store the film. The lens is the one responsible for teh image created.

A so-so body with good lens take pictures better than a good body with so-so lens.

However one thing to take note that the body is the one control some jey feature like metering, AF, flash, max shutter speed and so on.
A key feature on a body to look for is DOF preview, especially useful for macro shot.

Good luck on your search.

P.s. I think FM2 is a good buy if it's not too expensive. $900+ is definately expencive for even a new one. ;)

There is no need to.

Nikon f65, f80 and fm2 also have this feature.
There is other model that feature this too...

It's already out of production, replaced by the FM3A.
