Hi guys,

I am considering starting a Photoshop CS2 beginners course and I am looking for 2 pairs of photographers (4 in total) to help me test drive the syllabus at a very low introductory price of $80 for 4 x 2hr sessions.

Please note that images used here are for illustration purposes only and might not be used as examples during the course itself.

Who this course is catered to?
Specially catered for photographers who have a limited knowledge of photoshop and want to learn how to use it to improve their digital images.

What to expect from the course?
Small groups (2 people per group)
Straight forward techniques & tips
Everything you need to know to get you started

Course Syllabus (~2hrs per Session):

Session 1 – Introduction
1 - “Dirty” monitor calibration technique
2 - CS2 & Bridge Interface (Knowing your way around)
3 - Understanding photoshop’s fundamental rules
4 - Understanding your digital photo

Session 2 – Tweaking Your First Photograph
1 - Colour adjustment techniques
2 - Tonal adjustment techniques
3 - Using adjustment layers
4 - Simple effects (converting to B&W, sepia, cross processed, etc)
5 - Advantages of shooting in RAW

using adjustment layers to bring out the maximum potential in your photograph

Session 3 – Manipulating Your First Photograph
1 - Transforming, distorting, rotating etc
2 - Using the Liquify Tool
3 - Using the brush tools, healing brush & stamp tools
4 - Blurring and sharpening

using the healing brush & stamp tools to remove/fix elements in a photograph (see foot in lower left)

using brush tools to fix otherwise difficult to photograph objects

Session 4 – Compositing Techniques
1 - Masking techniques
2 - Layer effects & Blending options
3 - Adding text and text effects
4 - Where to go from here?

using masking techniques to make convincing compositions

example of more advanced composition

Location
Courses will be held in my studio at 6A Lim Tua Tow Road (near Serangoon MRT).

Please note that only 1 computer will be provided from which I will teach from, I would prefer not for students to bring their own laptops as I have taught some classes in which the students were too engrossed in playing with their own laptops that they stopped listening to me.

Also, I am not a believer of issuing notes, so students are encouraged to bring some paper to jot down notes for reference.

Timing
Weekday Evenings from 7pm - 9pm

Mode of Payment
Upon signing up, a deposit of $30 is to be made to secure the place, the remaining $50 is to be paid at the end of the first session. Please PM me for details on where to make the $30 deposit to.

Signing up
There will only be 2 classes, so which ever 2 days gets filled up first the class will begin on the following week.

Hello Ervine! I am keen to attend your course as well. My preference is for a Mon slot but I think both are taken up already. If no one backs out/changes their slot, please sign me up for either a Tue or Thurs slot. Thank you! :)

Hi guys.

A bit overwhelming response so to play fair I will base the slots on those who replied or contacted me first (some people PMed me) and have formed 2 people in the same day. I have also opened up another class due to the response.

If they back out then the next ones on the list will get it. Here's the list thus far:

Monday
1. kutu67 (tenatative)
2. sharpion (tentative)

Tuesday
1. wil*****g (tentative)
2. d******8 (tentative)

Thursday
1. Joh**** & Friend (tentative)

I have recieved some queries here and there so here are the answers:

1. I can't cater for individuals at other timings but can consider if a pair signs up at other timings
2. There are no hidden costs whatsoever unless you count your own transport as a hidden cost
3. The lessons run on subsequent weeks, meaning 4 mondays in a row etc(unless arrangements are made for changes within the group)
4. I will teach techniques but not necessarily walk thru step by step on how to achieve some of the things I did in the sample images (eg. the last image took me 10hrs-12hrs to edit)

I will stop taking in students for now, will post this up again after I run this introductory course.

Thanks everyone!
Ervine

Really gald you benifited... remember to practice.. :)

For the people who have PMed me I might start the next course in the week of 19th Dec as I still have 2 more classes to complete but I will be away for 2 weeks for a shoot from christmas till the week of new year so no classes then.

HOWEVER, like I mentioned the 1st batch of students were given an introductory price, the revised pricing is $140 for the same 4 x 2hr+ sessions. I have to increase price because it is simply not economical to charge so little, hope you guys understand.

I already have a waiting list of the following people (in chronological order, 1st person given priority), hope you guys don't mind me putting your nicks up:

fotoboy
919956g
engkeow

erictan8888

As mentioned the above people will be given priority, but the same thing applies and will still give a class with 2 confirmed seats overiding priority. Please sign up below if you are still interested given the price increase:
