Sigma, Tokina and Tamron all produce zoom lenses with the range of 24mm all the way to 70mm at f2.8. Some are 24-70, some are 28-70.

Which is the better breed of all? Taking:

1: Optic quality (sharpess, build quality and of course, the extra 4mm at the wide is good news for DSLR)

2: Build quality (during AF, does the focus ring turns? because it might hinder me when i'm holding the lens)

3: Others (which i might have missed out)

**note: Price is not so much of a concern.

Was not impressed by the Sigma 28-70/2.8 EX, it flares like crazy and optics are not so hot at f/2.8. Didn't much like the Tokina 28-80 either, optics are soft at f/2.8. Both these lenses do much better after f/5.6, but hey, so did my old Canon 28-105 USM, at 1/3rd the weight and price.

Sigma and Tokina build quality is good, but I decided against them because of the optics. Finally got a Canon 28-70/2.8L and it's superb, even at f/2.8.

but let say i don't have the cash to go for the canon 28-70L? then which one should i go for?

Sigma 24-70 f2.8 good? the extra 4mm on the wide is really useful, especially i'm suffering from the 1.6x crop.

got mixed review on the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, some other prefer tamron 28-75 f2.8.....i also lost on which one to get....heheee......good luck to u!

Canon 24-70mm L is one of the sharpest zooms in this range. but it is also the most ex lor. look for used one lor.

where can i find reviews on lens?

sigma 24-70 is more expensive than the rest. it's huge, built is good, 80+ mm diameter.
If a new tamron cost 650 and new sigma cost 680, which u will go?

Sigma then! cause its wider
