Hi all,

Wondering what would be the basic equipment required to set up a photography studio & the costs? It would really be useful to have a list and the cost so I can estimate the budget range. Such as the umbrella, trigger and backdrop costs.

I think you can budget around 5k for a basic but reliable setup.

My humble setup, can't exactly remember the exact price but I got these for less than $5K. OK la, good enough for me so far though I bet am gonna be getting some higher-end lighting kit later but the D-Lite4 is bang for the buck! QFlashes are definitely good replacement for robust outdoor/compact lighting setup.

So far this setup has served enough for me for in-studio & on-location shoots.

  • Elinchrom D-Lite 4 Kit - $1200
  • Elinchrom Skyport Universal Set - $390
  • Elinchrom Shoot Through Umbrellas (X2) - $50
  • Elinchrom Silver Reflective Umbrella - $30
  • Seamless Backdrop Paper Rolls (White + Grey) - $150
  • Backdrop Elevating System - $60
  • Bowens 6610 Lighting Stands (X2) - $170
  • Canon 580EXIIs (X2 - for outdoor no A/C stobing) - $1370
  • Canon Battery Packs (X2) - $500
  • White cum Silver Reflector (1.5m x 1m) - $60

Hope this helps...
