Barnone Concert

Finally beginning to grasp the learning curve of my new Mark II, here are the results of a recent shoot of a friend's album launch at Barnone, Marriott Hotel. First shot was on the 10D, the rest on the Mark II. Lenses used were the EF 85/1.2L and EF 35/1.4L. The slow AF on the 85 was a real problem but dang, check out the results when the AF locks on. The high iso on the mark 2 was pretty impressive imo. I shot in Tv and Manual modes. Comments more than welcome...

My thoughts exactly about the framing. Trouble is the lights don't quite keep still, as do the performers. I was quite conservative and only snapped about 100 frames the whole hour the performance was on. In hindsight
I should have just let the motor drive loose and snapped away.

They were all handheld. Check out the aperture values and iso settings and you can figure out how I was able to achieve those speeds. The 2 available light lenses I used really showed their worth though I must admit focusing in a darkened environment was the hardest bit during the shoot.

the 1dmk2 is an excellent low light performer. U could have pushed it to 1600 and still have superb results

Terence, don't mind if I post some of my pics from the night too, despite the fact that I was using my humble D70 with 18-70 3.5-4.5 kit lens. It's obvious what a couple of extra stops can do, had to shoot at 1600, and still with extremely slow shutter speeds, hand-held. Also, hence the grain, which actually when I look at it is not a bad effect for the "old-school" style of music of Brinal's album. Comments are welcome.

And let me add an extra plug for the album, it really is very good, with real guitars and some of the best production quality that you have ever heard on a locally produced recording. Available at HMV from next week onwards. Get a copy. Or if you can't wait, can PM either Terence or myself.
