In Ubud - Ulun Ubud (older but very interestingly perched on the slope of ubud with a nice pool and fantantic view. Get one of the higher level rooms. BTW, i assume no old folks in your trip - coz the stairs, the STAIRS! ha ha) Used to be >>100, about $70-90 now due to competition and those cowardly terrorists. Alternatively, can try Tegal Sari but they are quite popular and the better facing rooms are difficult to get. Also, their price has gone up. The upside is they are very close to Zen Spa and Bebek Bengil restuarant - the missus' favorites.

Around Kuta/Legian - All Seasons Legian (new, clean, nice pool, CHEAP! what more can you ask? but beware of the javanese tai tais hogging the deck chairs. :) About $50 the last time I stayed there.

There are many others which I may not know - bali has no lack of good and inexp accomodation.
