and don't forget to eat the local mutton Biryani :thumbsup::thumbsup:

should try the rock melons, water melon, grapes

they are the best :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: and cheap too.
 

went to south part last yr oct, thinking of going north, but should go on sept instead. :) pls do elaborate how u going to do it, backpacking as in taking buses all the way or renting a car locally? :)

would be good if we could have some rough itinerary to gauge interests, bcos xinjiang is really a big big hinterland province with so many potential photo locations. :)

did you hear any attacks on foreigners? besides, news of terrorism is questionable due to political reasons. so far, these places have been safe and probably safer than china.

i have reservations going middle east though. recently a few koreans are bombed in yemen.
 

Last I heard, xinjiang is in china

if you want to be technically correct, safer than other parts of PRC. anyway that is besides the point, many has went there without any problems. and it is definitely a cheaper alternative to central asia.

locations such as guangzhou, wuhan and xi'an is far worst. anyway, different people might have separate experiences.
