They are very Afraid of being forgotten so like a spoilt brat , they obviously aim to do something stupid once in a while. Already obsolete, I guess they are just trying their very best to remind people of their existence.

If in need of any examples : See Justin Bieber and the North Korea ruler. ;)

Have no idea who or what is "aware".

No need for this more recognition crap. So they give you 1 voucher for a McDonald's hamburger. Makes you look cheapskate and it cheapens the NS sacrifice.

Just make sure the able bodied, physically fit male foreigners who are given citizenship do 2½ years NS.
Instead of the lame excuse that they can be excused while their sons (if born in SG) will serve NS almost 2 decades later.

lol... but seriously, how to be equal? we are so much different in physique. bur each gender has it's weakness and strength.

end of the day, happy can already la. why raise so much issues. mens serve and go. it is already an obligation. why make it a hoo ha about the so called recognition that we are getting.

This is an excellent idea. Should get Tin Pei Ling to champion this. There are many things they can do: nurse, clerk, cook, butt party, toilet cleaner, .... Let's see what AWARE have to say about this.

Someone I know who happened to be female just remarked on facebook that "these ladies" are simply a group of "old hags with inferior complex left on the shelf, always craving for some attention". Hope they don't discover the fact that NSFs are already receiving some form of gratuitous healthcare services complimentary for SAF 11B card holders under an exclusive "privilege" program.

I don't see feminists overseas in other countries making noises of additional healthcare benefits as provided by their respective Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA (Australia, Canada, United States)) / Veterans Affairs Council (VAC (South Korea, Taiwan)) or similar governmental agencies.

So those who have served the nation, I don't think we want any special reward or recognition. I am not for woman serving in the army but OK if they contribute in other ways for example nursing, etc

I don't understand why foreigners can become citizen and not just maintain PR thing. We need their $$ or special expertise? If they can give up their citizenship in one country to become our citizen, can't they make the same move sometimes down the road?

If their child is born here, and serve NS, then he should be treated equal. Btw, what benefits we enjoy being citizen har?

1) Do NS mean get priority over housing when applying for BTO?
2) Do NS men get higher subsidies at government polyclinics / hospitals?
3) Do NS men get priority in applying schools for their children?
4) Do NS men get priority over promotion?
5) Do NS men get higher increments?

The list goes on......

I know that in civil service, those who served NS will get a slightly higher starting salary but what after next?

Therefore, what kind of recognition are you talking about? Our government advocates meritocracy; not servicing NS or not. That's why we always hear people complaining that some top ranking civil servants have not served NS but still can get .....

Akai Chew: Ok I want to know what kind of recognition Aware thinks is suitable for NS men

AWARE Singapore: On this thread and outside of it, there is a consistent sentiment that there is insufficient compensation for NSmen, and they lose out on salaries they could have earned, etc. We can more directly address this issue by simply paying NSFs better wages during their service, which better reflects their contributions and needs instead of entrenching differential access to fundamental services. AWARE's stand is not that NSFs contributions do not deserve compensation. The compensation should be relevant and appropriate to the services rendered.
One of their responses to a question. They see NS as a 'service rendered' :bsmilie: There is no kind of compensation that can ever be truly 'relevant and appropriate' for the forced conscription that is NS/reservist.

They sure know how to talk a lot... In China and USA, ex servicemen or military get a great deal of respect and priority.

BTW, if NSmen gets priority for housing, doesn't that means their spouse will benefit too? What's there to complaint about?
