Been seeing alot of ppl talking about the F828 purple color on pics but i can't even see the purple on the pictures i take & when i posted them up, ppl tell me its 'purpleish', i am diagnose since P6 to be color blind, anyway certification of more than 2 doctors anyway, i got a stamp of partial & complete. but mine quite strange, i can't see the ishihara book, i can see the 1st page, but not the subsequent pages. but i can 'guess' RGB colors but not a mixture or shade. tell me something about sky blue & i will say its either white, or blue. show me purple & i might say its red or blue (someone really asked me before). i also can't see signs which have bright color wordings with a bright color background.

anyway problem is, does the purplelish pictures really affect the overall view of the picture? since i can't see the purplelish pictures, should i still post pictures which i think they are free of the purplelish feel? mayb i should just change my camera to another cam. but i do like the feel of a F828.

Hey bro, I am colour-blind too. In a way, photography is difficult for me cos I cannot see those colour cast in my pictures but it doesnt really bother me as I enjoy the experience of being out there taking pictures. Where colours are concerned, purple doesnt exist for me.... I always see 'purple' as blue or dark blue.

If colour differentiation is a problem, why not specialise in B&W and other forms of monochromatic eg. duo-tones, infra-red photography where colour accuracy is not so important. These images are just as artistic and beautiful in their own way as those produced by normal colour photography.

are you new to the condition? i can share my experience :p

usually partial or even total color deficiency doesn't necessary mean u'll see things in shades of grey. and i dun think you're total. shd be a partial case.

eg. i'm red-green deficient. it just means tht the contrast i see betw red & green is not as great as wht a normal person will see. there is even a varying degree of "seriousness" with color blindness.

ishihara is a very strict test. but its very accurate. if you wish, can even teach u how to "cheat" in this test. but its pointless to do so..haha.

for some people like me, u might even see other color contrast better. like i can't differentiate red-green tht well. but i can differentiate other colors much better than wht most people can. i found this out as i took chemistry & both "O" & "A" levels and color differentiation is very important.

also, if your case is not a serious one, u can even "teach" yourself, or rather "condition" yourself to better differentiate the colors u're deficient in. ie, in lazy's case, maybe u can go see more of purple & always have a blue along to contrast it. slowly, u'll know wht is purple. if u're schooling, challenge yourself to take up chemistry & always refuse help and bring color charts along for the color u hv problems with.

mine long ago already...
anyway... i can differentiate a few but always mix up colors, can't differentiate brown with green, purple with blue or red, yellow with green, always mixed up.

but i can still drive... hehehe worst part.

i am quite accustom to this defect. but only thing is the CA i can't see. which is something i dun really like. also dunno y my pictures are dull as well.

btw specialising in B&W & IR, kinda defeat the purpose of a color camera.

heard you can get contact lens red to correct minor error.

erm about the purple fringe, imagine in bright sunlight and u have a shot of the sky and some trees.
Purple would appear with a white sky, which doesn't fit the real and expected colour scheme view of a sky and trees.
But in some places it doesn't stand out so much, esp in less sharply-contrasting or super bright areas.
Generally since it's not part of the scene, it's considered a flaw, from lens or CCD bleeding.
typically called chromatic *aberration*.

black and white is nice, but I am sure ur colour-blindness is not *that* bad...

Don't let the 'colour differentiation problem' get you down. Remember Beethoven was deaf...and in his deafness he composed one of the most grandest symphonies of all time the Ninth Symphony...part of which we are singing every Christmas: "Joyful Joyful we adore Him..."

Also 'suffering' from the same colour identification problem with u! ;) And I also can still drive! Anyway, from what I know, there is still no medical and optical solution to our colour-blindness so dun think there is any contact lens avaible for us to correct our colour problem.

You should be able to see the fringing around the objects, to me looks a bit bluish.

Color blindness sucks, and the worst thing is when you tell people, they ALWAYS subject you to the color test. "So wat color is this etc..."

Maybe we should have a CS color blind outing. :p

heh heh, i dun mind people "testing" or teasin' me about it. In fact, just play along for their fun..haha. when they point to red, tell them u see green and tht their skin looks greenish when they drink too much alcohol...muahahaha :p

the worst part for me is tht i nearly didn't get my 1st job due to color blindness. I found tht its not a well-known subject & there are so many misconception about it. i had to go to great length + 2 doctor's letter to convince the company.

but i do agree with you about photography. natural greeneries photo looks dull to me. i'm still trying to figure out wht greenies "shade" is considered as "nice" to normal people. for me, i prefer the green shot my Sony F707, which someone call is "disney color"...keke :p

i'm partially colorblind too ... but dunno which color ... doesnt really effect my life, manage to get through chemistry in my O level, passed my driving test. But as for color photography, it will be quite a headache esp using photoshop to edit color settings etc.

Hi

first of all colour deficiency is not the same as being colour blind. if u guys keep using the term "color blind" pple will keep associating you with not being able to see ANY colour, which isn't true at all.

i believe i'm red-green deficient - that's wat the doc who examined my eyes said when i'm undergoing the "numbers book" test during the last stage of my interview for SAF pilot (i didn't make it  ). There were pages I couldn't tell the numbers.

but i believe for most pple its not a serious medical condition at all. I can see colours very well most of the time...unless they are very very close shades, in which case most normal pple will have problems anyway. And though i did struggle a bit with chemistry at O and A levels, i've got a distinction to show for them. so there :) Anyway do u know it is ok to let the examiners or teachers know that you are colour deficient and the examiners will actually help you during the exam? This is allowed under the rules. For my batch / year anyway. Your situation today may vary.....

my point is that since it does not hamper life in most cases, don't further disadvantage urself by using the term "color blind"!

and btw, wat's wrong with b/w? aren't u sick of the technicolour world we all live in? Esp in today's MTV age, the assault of the senses with garnish, flashing colours is getting pretty tiring. Black and white removes all that distraction.

What is the essential difference between color-blind and color-deficient??

I was diagnosed to be red-green colour-blind cos me cannot see the numbers at all or see the wrong numbers!! :D Well, that's what the doctor put exactly down in my letter for my Chemistry practicals anyway.

Color blind is you totally dont see any color, like a dog (but when they see ghosts, are they in color?) :bsmilie: . Deficiency is the more common one, cannot perceive particular hues etc.

ermm speaking of this, i've not been tested to be colorblind, so far so gd but i'm just curious whenever i go to some webpage with a black background and bright blue text i feel that the text is like jumping out, sort of 3d like. is this normal? :D

http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/Ishihara.html

think i'll print one and keep in wallet to show pple. On a not so related note: I remember in kindergarten i got scolded for using purple for drawing rain and the sky. I thot it was just a very dark blue. (the fact that i vividly remember this is probably cos i've been scarred for life becos of that incident) :p.

And another site with more info.

mayb we could change it to CAD, Color Appreciation Deficiency.

anyway i just got an idea, do you think blue eyed ppl see things more blue & green eyed ppl see more green & so on?

anyway, its not wrong to take B&W pics, but saying color blinded should take B&W pics is quite harsh i suppose. I mean, wats the purpose of a color camera then if all color blind who bought the camera just for shooting B&W? just think, about every 10 men there is 1 guy who is color blind, so for every 10 camera sold, we might need 1 B&W cam, so the market is large enough for B&W cameras afterall... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:
