Went China for 6 weeks for immersion and my friend carried a tripod with him.
We go around Beijing carrying the tripod at all times and there's absolutely no problem with it

there are dozens of shops selling tripods in china. If tripods are not allowed to be used, i don't see how they will allowed it to be sold.

if its because of the sensitive issues associated with certain installations, yes of coz if u set up a tripod u are asking for trouble.

if it is normal tourism places, i don't think there is a problem.

yes, u are allowed to bring tripod into China, as well as buying back. I did that before.
