Went China for 6 weeks for immersion and my friend carried a tripod with him.
We go around Beijing carrying the tripod at all times and there's absolutely no problem with it :)

there are dozens of shops selling tripods in china. If tripods are not allowed to be used, i don't see how they will allowed it to be sold.

Almost all tripods are made in china. Why would they not be allowed there? :p

if its because of the sensitive issues associated with certain installations, yes of coz if u set up a tripod u are asking for trouble.

if it is normal tourism places, i don't think there is a problem.

yes, u are allowed to bring tripod into China, as well as buying back. I did that before.

As long as you don't mount a rocket launcher on it, I don't see why not ;)
