With two +4, you have to be around 12+ cm close to the subject, isn't that a bit too near if the subject is an insect ?

How do you calculate to get 12+cm ?? :)
hmm thanxs man ... will get some filters and try out :>

What is your objective for stacking two +4 single element filter on your 100mm macro lens?

Well, your 100mm macro can already give you a life-size. I suggest you try shooting at 1:1 first before aiming for higher magnification. Concentrate on improving your composition and exposure first, it may not be as simple as the normal day-to-day shooting as you think.
In the event that you may feel the need for higher magnification, I suggest that you use extension tube to avoid degration of image quality, or, use 1.4X extender. Honestly, I can't justify using single element filter for macro lens. :)
