Not facing an issue but was having the fear of issues arising after I purchase a Sigma lens. I am lookin at a 150-500mm from Sigma. Any comments or points i should take note?

From what I have read so far... The typical problem found in Sigma lenses are AF failure. This is especially true with use it on A700 (maybe A900 also). The suggestion I read is set to "slow AF" in A700.

so far no problem for my sigma 18-200. but i am still using A100, so no issue. Not sure abt A700 or A900, due to their higher torque inbuilt motor.

i think the problem was with the sigma 70-300, the gears are worn by a700 motor.

you mean there are other lenses affected?

my A100 destroys the AF gear of my Sigma 70-300mmf4-5.6
Now, whenever I use my Sigma lenses(24mmf2.8,28-70mmf2.8 and 18-125mm) on my A700, i set the focusing speed to 'slow' just to make sure;)

I think those who own Sigma 70-300mm APO have the same problem. Mine also. Ask my wife to send in repair and got it back 4days later. They replace a new "steering", told me to take care of the lens not build for speed. So far, I still like the lens.

Be aware the A200 uses the same AF motor as the A700 except it has no slow AF setting so gear stripping can be possible on some Sigma models. Which models, I've no idea although the older APOs seem to crop up in various forums.

My 24-70mm has back focus problem. :(
hey galdor, u can send the lens in for calibration at sigma for no charge at all. i sent in my A700 and 24-70mm and got it back in less than 2 hours. now, it is almost perfect except for the inherent softness at 2.8

for the record, i have used 24-70mm f2.8 as well as 70-300 f4-5.6 on both A700 and A100. no problem with the motor or the lens' gears...so far....
