Any recommendation of ND Grad and filter holder

I plan to buy a set of Lee ND Grad Hard filter and filter holder.

Anybody knows the price and any recommendation of the filter holder?

I happend read some books and see the instruction of Lee filter and the photos rendered by them. I love those pics, that's why I wanna buy Lee filter.

Any comment or recommendation?

cokin and lee are not compatible with each other, i guess?

i got a cokin holder at $14 and some slide-in square filters at about S$30 each. i actually prefer to get lee but cathay holds only cokin. wonder if anyone can advise if lee is much better than cokin? and where can i get lee?

I bought it at Cathay,if they also have no stock,no idea now.

Cokin uses hard gel material.

if i m rite oso got Singh-Ray tis brand.

Lee uses glass! :bigeyes:

gel will fog over time (still, ttz some yrs away), easily scratched.

glass can crack or shatter on impact, costs much more, but last much longer & optically superior (if not lenses will b made of plastic ler).

thanks for sharing your decision. I have no experience in using Grad ND filters, hence seeking your views on what made you decide on Lee as i'm also thinking of getting some Grad NDs myself. I used to see CP selling Lee Grad ND filters, not sure now still have or not.

I know the cokin holder (P series) can hold Singh-Ray, maybe also Lee.

Lee is not only better than Cokin, but together with Singh Ray, which incidently is made of glass, they are the best! Lee & Singh Ray are about the only truly neutral-coloured ND filters - ie, no colour cast.

my former boss took out glass filters from a Lee pouch. :sweat: i assume it was a Lee filter...

We are left with no choice but to purchase it online (from B&Hphotovideo, etc). Just waiting for someone to initiate an MO (hopefully) to that we can all split the shipping cost.

how abt GND if u want to reduce the contrast at the sky to increase the exposure of the foreground and subject and bring out the color? even that is easily and well duplicated with CS2?

Easily done... probably yes... but I'm not expert in Photoshop. I think you have more chance of an answer if you re-post this question on the Newbie's forum.

However, I'm sure it can be done because I've read somewhere in the web while doing a search on GND. That's why I knew the demand for GND filters (hardware) is not as widely demanded with the coming of the digital edge and that's the same reasons why specialised photographic shops like John, CP, etc only carry the cheaper Cokin GNDs, if any.

P.S. The screw in type (Hoya, Kenko, etc) are more easily available but I'm sure you agree that having the transition line right in the centre is about the worst possible place for a GND.
