I know a lot of people are big fan of hers but I really fail to see what is so great about her.

Well, she has an amazing voice for one.
And its called Britains got Talent, not Looks.
Yeah, she looks frumpy, but she's talented.

I'm aware that she is known for her voice rather than her looks. I've watched the videos and still fail to see what's so spectacular or awesome her voice is. But hey, to each it's own.

Perhaps it just more about her voice (which not everyone has) and also her "story" about her and where she was from etc....

she's overated.

So many other people on broadway look and sound better than her.

Her semi final performance was not impressive at all. Voice control wasn't very good.

I guess now that people are all rooting for her, she can do no wrong.

I think the lady judge said something which is very right to the point.
People were cynical. People judged the other person before they actually know the person by his/her true character. They rather pass the death senence just by what they see in the other person..be it physical outlook only. The audience were jeering at her. Only when she shown her true talent, she really shut the audience up and they have to eat their own egos.:bsmilie:

from CNA: Susan Boyle in clinic after collapse

LONDON : Scotland's Susan Boyle, who became a global star when a clip of her singing was viewed 100 million times on YouTube, has been rushed to a health clinic suffering from exhaustion, reports said Monday.

The Sun newspaper said the 48-year-old spinster - whose rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical Les Miserables brought her worldwide acclaim - was taken to the Priory clinic in London on Sunday.

On Saturday night, Boyle came second in the "Britain's Got Talent" television competition that made her famous, despite being the favourite.

In the days leading up to the final, media reports suggested she was having trouble coping with the weight of expectations on her.

The television company behind the show on Sunday said Boyle had been advised to take time off after the result.

"Following Saturday night's show, Susan is exhausted and emotionally drained," talkbackThames said in a statement.

"She has been seen by her private GP (doctor) who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery. We offer her our ongoing support and wish her a speedy recovery."

Police confirmed that a woman had been voluntarily taken to a clinic Sunday after police were called to assess her under mental health legislation.

A spokesman for London's Scotland Yard police said: "Police were called at approximately 6pm (1700 GMT) to a central London hotel to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act.

"Police and ambulance attended. The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance."

Boyle had been under huge pressure to win "Britain's Got Talent" on Saturday after her audition piece became a major hit on video-sharing website YouTube. However, after a public vote she lost out to a street dancing troupe.

agreed. I'm not denying her ability to sing. but just because she looks like a train wreck and can sing, doesn't mean she's the next gift to mankind since the invention of the flushing toilet.

Here's my opinion.

Susan Boyle shot to fame because of her dowdy looks. There was this "unexpected factor" that was charming. She can sing, but IMO, Paul Potts, who had a similar claim to fame, is better.

And what did her in in the finals? She sang the same song as she did on her first appearance on the show.

"Diversity" on the other hand produced something fresh with each performance, and doing better each time. And as Simon Cowell said, they are all of different physical stature, but they look very smooth and cohesive together. What impressed me was how the two kids blended in with the older boys perfectly. Just try that with S'porean kids at that age group and you'll begin to appreciate how insanely difficult it would be to get everybody in perfect rhythm.

So, I think the result is a fair one. And in such a talent quest, coming in 2nd isn't too bad either. I'm sure Susan Boyle is not going to be a shade less popular just because she came in 2nd.

y'know, i think media hype kind of kills the contestants' chances of winning.

Example: Susan Boyle.
Another example: Adam Lambert of American Idol season 8

and i agree, Boyle sings well, but is there a need for so much hype? If you replace a prettier face on her, would she still get so much media attention?
