yeah yeah, we evaluate a photographer by his equipment... :dent:

sad sad case of misconception still abound...
like "pro only uses Leicas.....bla bla bla"
All the craps about German Optics(I dun deny the quality though)..but my definitionof a pro is not someone who uses German Optics as his equipment, but rather someone who can really make a living out of photography and has managed to recoup all the initial investment for his equipments...
There is a 'pro' that I know here in singapore who shoots with a russian lens whos front elements has met with so much abuse...but the amazing thing is that the pictures that he took, can really sell...and so much pleasant to look at as compare to another fella who uses Leica or Zeiss.....geddit????

FND..that is so true....
and human are supposed to be the smartest of all animals...isn't it ironic...

To those who know Leica (M series), it is a good rangefinder with top class quality.

BUT to those who don't know Leica (99% in a wedding = relatives, friends...), they will LOOK DOWN to any PRO photographer using a "metal P&S"

Nikon and Canon are more PROFESSIONAL BRAND among common citizen (99.9% of all citizen), even if u r using a F55 or EOS300.:bsmilie:

eh? thought they wold have solved that by now. anyway i find that a quick rap to the head with a rubber mallet usually does the trick for me. :bsmilie:

My thoughts on this issue.

Pro means people who make a living out of it full time.

Freelance means people who do it part time.

Professional Freelancer = A Freelancer who produces work which has quality similar to that of a professional photographer?

Ah..but is there an empirical benchmark for a Professional photographer anyway?

One a similar note.....can any Professional photo escape by being mediocre? I've seen a few photo studios before who can't even churn out proper passport prints.;)

This kind of discussion will always end up with nothing...

Some define Pro by equipment they used.

Some define Pro as someone that shoot and deliver on demand.

Some define a full time photographer as Pro.

Some call themselve Pro.

Some blindy listens and follow those that they think are Pro.

So how do we define Pro? Believe whatever u want.

Even if you explain till your face turn blue, some client still use your equipment as a gauge of your skill.
Client have a right to define and specify what they want, if they want Lecias, so be it.

Just my 2 cents worth... I will not reply further to this thread.

Cheers,
