Once upon a time, there was talk of merging the 2 national carriers SIA and Qantas. The idea was scrapped by OZ though SG was keen. Soon after, Qantas dropped Singapore as its overseas hub; joined Emirates alliance and moved its hub to Dubai. So after Qantas did all that, what happened?

Whew.

A lucky escape for SG. Singapore must have some guardian angel protecting it from its own foolishness (of wanting to merge with Qantas once upon a time).

Qantas to cut 1,000 jobs and report loss of up to $300 million for first half of financial year

Qantas shares hit record low, days after the airline's credit rating was downgraded to "junk" status

Ya lah, what is LKY for. He is the guardian angel. LOL

Amazingly, some one even wrote a book about it. The book has been on sale for some time now.

The CEO took a multi-million bonus on top of a multi-million yearly pay.
The $5 million man: Qantas boss Alan Joyce booed over sky-high payrise

When Qantas is failing, it steps up campaign for taxpayer assistance.
Qantas wants OZ government to bail it out, just like what Italy did for Alitalia; and India did for Air India.
But new OZ PM tells Qantas management to take responsibility for the airline. Correct.

Qantas has to fight its own battles, Tony Abbott says
