I'm taking motorbike sports race..
Currently using AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED.
I didn't get enough zoom to capture far distance objects.
I would like to know if AF VR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED is it a good lens?
What i know its not a fast lens.. but affordable.. unlike any other fast lens which is way beyond budget.
any recommendation?

I heard its a pretty darn slow lens

maybe a 80-200 + TC would be better?

The focusing might not be as snappy fast as AFS lenses, but optics wise should be a performer. The cheaper alternatives would be the old manual focusing lenses, or just rent a lens when you need to shoot.

wow.. ok!
80-200 but still cant get the close up zoom.
thats why i said pop on a TC :)

a 1.4X Teleconvertor'll give you a 112-280mm lens @ f4

while a 2X teleconvertor'll give you a 140-400mm lens @ f5.6!

oh course, TCs do degrade IQ but with a top-notch lens like the 80-200 and a decent TC, image quaility will still be reasonably good
