Hi all,

Is there any difference between Classes of the memory cards?

Like for example. SDHC as we know got like class 2 class 4 and even class 6 or even more. I made some search ended up looked and sounded like they are compatible for the relevant equipment use for storage.

Any advice?

Thank you

I think they are compatible for the relevant equipment, the only different is the Write Speed, hence may impact the continuous shooting when Write Speed is important.

" Class 2 supports a minimum data transfer rate of 2MB per second; Class 4 supports 4MB per second; and Class 6 6MB per second. "

Hi, thanks

It's more of their transfer capabilities. Wonder why so many CF card adaptors cannot support sdhc cards. Wouldn't it be nice if I can make use of the sdhc card on both my cameras cos currently one uses sdhc and the other CF.

I read about some DSLRs use both SD and CF cards, i.e. canon 1d .

I think you could use use a SD-to-CF adapter and use SD card in both cameras, if I am not wrong.

Then you only need SD for all application.

Hi,

I think you maybe right that there should be a SD to CF card to be used in the camera. However, I think with this direct combination, I may not be able to use the SDHC card inserted into the CF card adaptor and transfer files into most of the current portable storage drives. Or is there any?

If you are using SD or SDHC should be of no issue since most notebooks have the SD card slot. You may transfer files from notebook to external hard disk or USB device etc.

What portable storage drives are you referring to?

Hi,

I got the old X-drive pro.

In fact, I made some studies and found quite a alot of portable media player or recorder does not support SDHC. Am referring more to data transfers. That is why I though of using the CF adaptor to do the work. Did manage to find one some name "jobo" on the web but not locally.

Some new generations like the archos gen 5 supports though but that will mean alot of the cam users like myself may have to sell off the older but just as reliable set at rock bottom prices.

You've got any suggestions?

The key word is upgrade, like from 1MP camera to a 3 MP, then 5MP, then 10MP camera etc.

I am not sure if a multi-purpose, multi-card type reader would solve the problem, have not try one myself yet, I only use SD and mini-SD (which have the SD adaptor) cards. Currently using a class 4 SD 2GB (Toshiba) with no problems in camera or notebook.

Would only consider SDHC (4GB/8GB/64GB) when the price falls much lower.

Hence if I were you, use Class 4 or 6 SD and decide on SDHC later, i.e. when your other systems (upgraded) have no compatibility issue.

Not sure if there is an software to bridge SD and SDHC:think:

I might have misread you but it isn't it the SDHC that has Class2/4/6?
The SD Association made it a requirement for SDHCs to be labeled with the classes
representing their guaranteed minimum speed.

Well,

High Speed, Class 4, 6 & onwards and High Capacity, 4GB, 8GB, 32GB and onwards are different. One is speed and the other is capacity.

Both 2GB SD and 4GB SDHC can have the speed of Class 4 or 6, but different capacity.

SDHC reader can read both SD and SDHC, hence once shoud get a SDHC reader instead of just SD reader.

Well, generally from what I know of is that there is ready SDHC (class 2 to 6) stand alone adaptor that fits and ale to transfer data to all laptops that only supports SD cards.

However, with this possibility, I am sure there must be a CF adaptor that can work just like this simple gadget that allows the SDHC (class 2 to 6) to be slot into mainly for my portable photo or data storage drives while on the move with out the need for any laptop nor PC.

I did read a particular adaptor something like "JOBO" brand from germany.

Yap, I think companies are fast to come out with adaptors to suit consumers' needs.
