Just wondering....

Why not a 20mm prime?

I think primes are fabulous recommendations  (personally) but guess some pple wpuld just prefer to zoom then to walk....:)

Individual's preference I guess...

I use the Sigma 17-35mm Minolta mount. The lens is very sharp and fast. But the barrel distortion is quite distressing at the 17mm side. I have not noticed significant flaring even without the hood. Never stacked a filter other than UV on it..... it's very ex for buy filters for it lar...... 82mm u know.... 35mm end is ok... no distortion. Never noticed any other imperfections but I dun shoot much with it..... my 2 cents..

there's a sigma 14mm f3.5 for sales at TCW.. think its $560..
fantastic lens!! good build n sharpness!
but WARNING!! ULTRA WIDE~~~~~

can read the review here..
http://www.bythom.com/14lens.htm

or if u really want a 17-35 range, i used to have the sigma one.. 2.8-4..
pretty good value for tat lens.. but at 17/2.8, edges r a little soft, but center is tack sharp! 2nd hand shld be ard $500+... sigma juz launched its HSM version tho.. do check it out~

maybe u shld state ur budget too.. :)

Might want to wait for the new optical revision of the Sigma 17-35 HSM and the Tamron Di 17-35 to arrive. They might give the Nikon 18-35 a bad time.:)

There are times when walking is not an option... no room to go further back!!! Example of image (The Great Court in the British Museum) taken with the 17-35mm at 17mm focal length.

Well...... agree lar...... if u are going for such a wide shot..... no choice but to take a ultra wide angle lens... otherwise why produce such lens for?
